In this podcast, Anastassia Tsoukala examines the roots and the rise of the far-right Golden Dawn political party.
The criminologist and an associate professor at the University of Paris XI describes Golden Dawn as a “neo Nazi party” which with “total impunity” attacked migrants, homosexuals and radical left Greeks.
She admits that the outlook for minorities in Greece is “bleak” despite the government’s action against the party.
Tsoukala, who is also a member of the National Human Rights Commission of Greece, took part in a Parliamentary Assembly hearing on the situation in Greece following the murder of the rapper Pavlos Fyssas.
She is joined in this discussion by the Greek MP and assembly parliamentarian Maria Yannakaki.
