“Today, with the enormous progress of biology and medicine – which has taken place in the last 7 decades and which has already given us many years of life -, we know very well the causes of modern pathology, which, unfortunately, concerns a very large percentage of the population worldwide. This pathology consists of “chronic non-communicable diseases”, which include anxiety, depression, overweight/obesity, cardiometabolic syndrome, allergic and autoimmune diseases, psychosomatic disorders, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, sleep disorders, cancer, etc. These diseases are mainly the result of the chronic, relentless, psycho-social-economic stress that we are under in the modern era, combined with poor nutrition, lack of exercise, insufficient sleep, and irregular schedule of the day and of course the hours we spend in front of a screen, digital stress. Of course, other chronic stressors also contribute, such as environmental pollution, unhealthy habits, difficult social relationships, devaluation, inequality, etc. Interestingly, Millennials and Generation Z experience the highest degree of digital production of stress!
Prevention, which is the point, depends on education and training. Reversing established chronic pathology is not easy, but it is possible. The good news is that modern technology gives us new possibilities and can be instrumental in both prevention and reversal.Sensors, smart devices, augmented and virtual reality, artificial intelligence and digital assistants, ChatGPT. The 4th Industrial Revolution in dealing with the silent pandemic!”
