Event in honor of former Greek Prime Minister Constantinos Simitis

The NETWORK for Reform in Greece and Europe, the Jacques Delors Institute and the online magazine “Μεταρρύθμιση”, with the support of the Delphi Economic Forum, are organizing a special event in honor of the former Prime Minister of Greece, Constantinos Simitis.

The event will take place at the Foundation of the Hellenic World, (Hellenic Cosmos, Pireos 254) Antigone Hall, on Monday, November 6, 2023, at 19:00 (arrival of guests at 18:30). H.E. the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mrs. Katerina Sakellaropoulou will honor with her presence the event.

Prominent figures from Greek politics, business and academia, as well as journalists and youth representatives will attend the event.

Constantinos Simitis was the longest serving Greek Prime Minister and one of the most important pro-Europeans. Two of the most important events that shaped the country’s course after the restoration of democracy/Metapolitefsi (literally “regime change”) were Greece’s accession to the European Union on January 1, 1981 under Prime Minister Konstantinos Karamanlis and Greece’s entry into the Economic and Monetary Union on January 1, 2001 under Prime Minister Constantinos Simitis.

Two decades later and in the midst of the numerous crises of the 21st century, the former prime minister’s perseverance and national struggle have been vindicated and rewarded, as he has achieved Greece’s admission to the EMU and Cyprus’ accession to the European Union.
