Report of the High-Level Group on the Future of Social Protection and of the Welfare State in the European Union

It is with great pleasure to announce the  Event – Presentation of the Report of the High-Level Group on the Future of Social Protection and of the Welfare State in the European Union, which will take place at the King George Hotel, Syntagma, on Monday, September 18, 2023 (arrival of participants: 17.30).

The Report was compiled by 11 prominent academics and researchers of the High-Level Group, under the presidency of Anna Diamantopoulou, following a proposal by the competent Commissioner for Employment and Social Rights, Nicolas Schmit. Global trends such as demographic changes, the radical transformation of the world of work due to technological advancement, as well as climate change and the green transition, directly affect the welfare state, family policies, work life, and youth. The pages of the Report describe the impact of these major trends that influence the future of social protection and the welfare state in the European Union and formulate strategic recommendations to EU Member States.

The report also analyzes the lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic and the aggressive Russian actions against Ukraine and their consequences, such as the increasing challenge of energy poverty.

Commissioner for Employment and Social Rights, Nicolas Schmit as well as Hellenic Minister of Labour & Social Affairs, Adonis Georgiadis and Hellenic Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Sofia Zacharakis, are among the confirmed speakers
of the event.
