The outcome of this year’s European election will, for the first time, determine who will become the new president of the European Commission (the EU’s main executive institution). The main political groups in the European Parliament have already chosen their candidates for the presidency of the European Commission and will seek our vote on the basis of competing manifestos.
The purpose of this event held in the Keynes Library of Birkbeck College, University of London, was to bring together experts who will present the key differences and similarities between the political groups in the European Parliament with regard to specific policy issues, such as EU’s economic agenda, the regulation of financial services, reform of the EU’s labour market and immigration. This will enable voters to make an informed choice at the election.
Speakers include Owen Tudor (Head of the TUC’s European Union and International Relations Department), Nicola Countrouris (Reader in Law, UCL), David Goodhart (Director, Demos), Henning Meyer (Editor, Social Europe Journal) and Dionyssis G. Dimitrakopoulos (Senior Lecturer, Birkbeck College). For your information please find attached the agenda.
