THE LONG HAUL: DEBT SUSTAINABILITY ANALYSIS

ZSOLT DARVAS AND PIA HÜTTL ZSOLT DARVAS AND PIA HÜTTL

Assessing the sustainability of public debt is a crucial input to policy analysis, and to market assessment of fiscal risk. In Darvas, Sapir and Wolff (2014) we used a debt sustainability analysis (DSA) for Greece, Ireland and Portugal to simulate public debt and its ratio toGDP up to 2030, under various scenarios. The aim of this working paper is to present the full details of the model developed, the data sources used and the assumptions made by Darvas, Sapir and Wolff (2014). We also update the calculations using more recent data for all three countries.
